LIGHTING
With all the hype about 1 lux cameras, it's no wonder why lighting is so
misunderstood!
|
This may sound like a stupid statement. "There can
be no video without light!" The reason we make this statement is because some
videographers would lead you to believe that they can operate in the dark. Well, they
can't--nobody can! Some just do better than others. No type of videography has more challenging lighting conditions than wedding video. PMP does a superb job with difficult lighting. First, we use some of the best low-light cameras available. Then we judiciously use low-wattage lights when necessary. We have used auxiliary lighting during ceremonies only a handful of times. Most churches don't allow video lights, and we have never absolutely needed it. The exceptions were by customer request, and we used less than 15 watts. Our cameras operate satisfactorily from candlelight to sunlight (although, honestly, the more light the better). We actually taped one ceremony by oil lamp in a historic church with no electricity, and the customer loved the results! A major reason we attend rehearsals is so that we can assess and discuss lighting with the client and officiate. Our clients seem to really appreciate our expertise in church lighting. |
We use on-camera lights during receptions, when needed. We use low-wattage, variable output on-camera light units, and use the minimum wattage we need for the job. We do not set up light stands with glaring high-wattage lights. We don't need them. We use a variety of diffusion lenses for our on-camera lights to produce pleasing effects. Finally, we cover all major events with two cameras, each with a light to produce pleasing three-dimensional lighting, not flat lighting that characterizes on-camera lighting from a single source. In over 500 weddings, nobody has ever complained that the lights were intrusive or bothersome. We feel we do a very good job of balancing our need for light with the sensibilities of our clients. We are sure you will be delighted with the results! |
