DVD-R and +R Compatibility Issues and Policy

There are two formats for burning DVD's, DVD-R and DVD+R.  We can produce both formats, but recommend DVD-R.  DVD-R is compatible with more set-top DVD players today, and seems to be winning the "format war."  Based on approximately the first 5,000 DVDs we have delivered to wedding-event and corporate customers, less than 25 have failed to play correctly on customer DVD players.

Today, compatibility issues have almost disappeared. However, we have developed a strategy that our customers can use to determine if a set-top player will be compatible with the DVD-R and +R discs  we produce.  We have also formulated a guarantee to address compatibility issues that treats both the customer and us fairly.

DVD Player Compatibility Determination

Look up your DVD player's compatibility in your instruction manual.  Alternately, look up your DVD player's Brand Name and Model Number at VCDHelp.com.  This is a very reliable list to help you determine if your DVD player is compatible with the DVD-R or +R formats.  That way, we will know which format to produce your DVD's on.  It is also a great resource for helping you select a DVD player to buy.

DVD-R Compatibility Guarantee

If a DVD you purchased from us will not play your DVD player, which is in good working condition and is listed as compatible with DVD-R or +R in you instruction manual or at VCDHelp.com, we will refund the purchase cost of the DVD, starting with the cost of any copies purchased.  You are responsible for notifying us of compatibility issues, within one-week of receiving your DVDs, and returning them to us as soon as possible.  If your player is not listed, or is listed as incompatible with DVD-R or +R formats, you assume total risk for incompatibilities.

Which DVD Player Should You Buy?

Originally, we recommended several brands of DVD players that got good user reviews for playing DVD-R and +R formats. However, as the DVD equipment industry has matured, we have found that compatibility issues have diminished.  Today, we recommend that you buy whichever brands and models appeal to you as long as they are listed as compatible with DVD-R or DVD+R.  One thing we have learned is that price is not an indicator.  In fact, it seems that the lower cost models do better than the expensive ones.  To ensure compatibility, make sure you consult the user manual, the retail carton, or VCDHelp.com before you buy.  Also, the ultimate test is to try a DVD-R or DVD+R disc in a showroom demo model before you buy.
