Phyllis’s Wedding Video Journal

Case and I just finished doing a public relations project for Pepco Holdings (Delmarva Power) regarding the MAPP. (With wedding and event video, I am the boss; with commercial work, Case is the boss.) Here is the link to the videos:

We will be doing more of these interviews in the next few months. Between weddings, graduations, and commercial work, April and May should be quite busy!

In spite of the chilly day, Rob and Heather had a beautiful wedding at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. Rev. Robert Harris officiated. Heather was a gorgeous bride. The reception was at the Fountains in Salisbury. Ethan of Events by Ethan was the wedding planner, and did a great job. The flowers (by Kitty's Flowers) were beautiful, the cake (by Sweet Disposition) absolutely delicious, and the whole evening was a lot of fun. (All stills are from our high definition video.) Jen Seay was the photographer.  Congratulation to Heather and Rob!

"Marsh Madness" came to a successful close last night after we finished videotaping two performances of North Dorchester High School's senior class play, Hairspray.  We taped two performances because there were two casts. Both the matinee and the evening performances were very well staged and full of energy and life. (We call it "Marsh Madness" because we recorded seven plays in less than a month. Next weekend the wedding madness starts up again. I've got to get all these plays edited before the wedding madness gets too crazy. Yikes!))

We did have something unexpected happen between the two shows. For some reason, my camera decided it was not going to work for the second show. Luckily, we always carry backup up equipment for everything, so with one of our other cameras, I was able to shoot the second show without any problem.  (Of course, we always shoot our plays and weddings with multi-cameras, anyway.) I can't imagine doing any video job without backup equipment.

After fifteen years of begging drama teacher Donna James to have her school, Cambridge-South Dorchester High School,  perform my very favorite musical, she finally did "Guys and Dolls". It was worth the wait. Beautifully staged and well-sung and acted, it was a real treat to tape last night. Her son Mike did the sets, and as usual he out-did himself. The backdrop of Times Square from the early 1950's was outstanding. Congratulations to the cast and crew for a wonderful performance!

Last weekend Saints Peter and Paul Middle School staged the junior version of Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was quite charming, entertaining, and full of life. The costumes and hair were wonderful.  Next year the school is performing Aladdin, Junior. It will be hard to top this year's show. Here are a few shots from the show we videotaped for the school:

This weekend, South Pacific opened at Easton High School. Beautifully produced and directed by Chris Noyes, this show is a real treat for those of us already familiar with the show, as well as those seeing it for the first time. Here are some stills from the video we shot on opening night:

The show continues  March 11-12. Make sure to go and you will have an "Enchanted Evening." I guarantee you will come out of the auditorium humming one of South Pacific's many showstoppers.

Last weekend we taped “Desire Under the Elms” at Church Hill Theatre in Church Hill, Maryland, which is just north of Centreville, Maryland. It was a very powerful performance of a very powerful play by Eugene O’Neill. The show runs through March 13. Kudos for a job well-done.

The Country School in Easton, Maryland is performing  The Music Man tomorrow and next weekend. Last night we attended and taped the show for the school. The costumes and sets were amazing, as always. These middle school performers did a wonderful job.  Here are some stills from the show:

Case and I shot this show as Marsh Video Productions. We love event video. This time of the year is really crazy for us. It seems like most of the schools in the mid-shore do their shows at the end of February and the month of March. March gets even more complicated since Phyllis Marsh Productions has a wedding at the end of the month! One of our clients dubbed March as “Marsh Madness”. Sometimes I think we should take our vacation in April, rather than January, but someone has to edit all of these videos, which is me, of course. (Case has his hands full with corporate videos, as well as his film transfers and college recruiting sports videos.)

Another lovely show from Talbot Figure Skating Team last weekend (Love of Skating 2011). Here are a few stills from the video.

This little girl did not fall. It was part of the act, as you can see by the big smile on her face:

Great show girls! Keep up the good work. Except for my chilly feet, we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to videotape this lovely show.

(Video work was done by Case and Phyllis Marsh of  Marsh Video Productions –a full service video studio in Easton, MD.)

The Inn at Perry CabinWe recently put a short version of Heather and Roger’s elopement wedding at the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, Maryland, on YouTube (this is):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ocO-WbsBOko

We have also put it on the our homepage of the Phyllis Marsh website. We plan to showcase other weddings through the year. (We featured Heather and Roger a few months ago in our blog–http://www.phyllismarshvideo.com/blog/index.php/phyllism/inn-at-perry-cabinst-michaels-md-videographer/ )

I hope everyone enjoys the video. I know we enjoyed the couple and wish nothing but the best for them.

(Please note that the music used for this Internet quality version is royalty-free music. Heather and Roger did select their own music for their final video production, just as all of our clients do.)

Just came across this article on Bridal Buzz: http://bridalbuzz.dmagazine.com/2011/01/28/warning-hire-a-videographer-or-you-will-regret-it/

Anyone sitting on the fence trying to decide whether or not to have a professional video of their wedding needs to read this article. (And of course if you do have the good sense to have video, you need to call us.)

Last weekend we had the great pleasure of videotaping Easton Middle School’s Bye Bye Birdie. The show is a combined effort of the drama departments of Easton Middle School and Easton High School in Easton, Maryland. Here are a few stills from the show:

The kids do a great job. There will be another opportunity to see the show this coming weekend (01/28 and 01/29 at the Easton High School Auditorium). Be prepared to come out humming “The Telephone Hour”(“he’s in love with Kim, she’s in love with him…”) and putting on a “Happy Face”. Kudos to teacher Ricky Vitanovec (Mr. V) who continues to produce and direct these excellent shows. Talbot County has a real jewel in him.

I call the next couple of months “Marsh madness”.  Since we are a full-service video studio, we shoot both weddings and non-wedding events. For some reason, all of the schools in the mid-shore area do their school plays this time of year. I love watching and recording the shows, and then editing them for the students and their families. Case does corporate and training videos, in addition to his film and tape transfer business (under his business name of “Marsh Video Productions“). Sometimes it gets a little crazy here. Weddings are still my priority and first love.

Case and I just got back from our winter vacation at the Iberostar Paraiso del Mar in Mexico. We still have a lot of work to finish from the fall wedding and event season, but this was a great time for us to take a break, and we missed a lot of bad weather in Easton. What a beautiful place! I think there was a wedding there everyday. On Thursday, we had some rain, but the weather cleared in time for the afternoon ceremony, and there was even a rainbow over the Caribbean Sea.

The vegetation and wildlife was amazing. Here are a few of the animals we saw:

These cute little guys were not shy about being around people. The coati (coatimundi) is found in South and Central America.

This would be a perfect place for a honeymoon or destination wedding. The scenery is spectacular and there is much to see. We spent a few hours at the Mayan ruins in Tulum one day, and took an excursion to snorkel and dive at Cozumel.

The Caribbean Sea is amazing on the Riviera Maya. We hated to leave, but will be back one day.

Last weekend the Cambridge Ballet Company presented The Nutcracker at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School auditorium. The show was wonderful. Each year Cambridge Ballet just gets better and better. Here are some shots from our video:

This show is a great holiday tradition. The costumes were gorgeous. The backdrop for the second act was beautiful.

Nutcracker-8

Erika and James were married at Ayres United Methodist Church in Pittsville, Maryland. Except for a pesky heating grate in front of the altar area (you know what I mean, Erika), everything was perfect. Erika wore a beautiful strapless gown with a lace over-jacket. The church was decorated for Christmas and the bridesmaids’ dresses were beautiful complementary colors of deep forest green and burgundy. James and his groomsmen wore black tuxedos.

Ceremony

Ayres United Methodist Church

The church was a bit of a challenge for us. There was no balcony and very little room at the back for more than one tripod. Using our standard multi-camera coverage was not going to work there. Luckily, the church had a lot of high windows with deep ledges. Case clamped two small camcorders in strategic spots around the church to complement our two manned cameras. Case positioned himself off to the side in the choir area next to the organist and I had my usual spot in the back of the church.

Arriving at the Holiday Inn in Salisbury Maryland

Erika and James arrived at the Holiday Inn in Salisbury in a stretch limo. Erika wore a beautiful white full-length cape with a deep red lining.

First Dance

Jim Baker of Jumpin’ Jukebox provided the music for the reception. Gary Marine was the photographer. Bryan and his staff at the Holiday Inn did a terrific job with the food service.

Memorial to Pop-pop

Erika was very close to her grandfather, Charles Wilkins, who died in 1999. She had a beautiful memorial for him on the altar.

All our very best wishes to Erika and James for a long and happy life together. Thank you for choosing us to be your wedding videographers.

Thank you for visiting our blog and website. We appreciate your interest and your business.
