Starting July 1, when we went to the Castleton Festival in Virginia and videotaped La Boheme for Maestro Lorin Maazel, my mantra has been, “Just get through July, just get through July…” We are officially done with July, so I decided it was definitely time to get a blog entry done.

Although I have posted some quick entries to my Facebook page, I have terribly neglected my blog. After three operas and three weddings in July, I am ready for a break. However, all of this beautiful material must be edited, so our work is not done yet.  But it is all post-production, at least until we hit September. Even though we have an editing studio set up at our place near Bethany Beach, it is hard to work when everyone else is playing. (Not that Case and his Marsh Video don’t have a boatload of work to finish–between his corporate clients and film transfers, he has much to do.)

Anyway, we ended the month with a bang. John and Michelle’s wedding at Grace United Methodist Church and their reception at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, Maryland, were great. They had their rehearsal dinner at Mitchum’s Steakhouse in Trappe. We videotaped the rehearsal dinner, and projected their “slideshow” on a big screen for everyone to enjoy.

Bryan works for the Baltimore Orioles as the "In-Game Entertainment Manager"-he's the guy who does the special videos for the jumbotron, among other videography. Sarah teaches in Montgomery County. Good food, drink, and music=good times for all, especially for Case and me. What a nice break for us during this crazy time of the year.

We couldn't be happier for them. All our best wishes for a long, happy life together.

The bride and her wedding party got ready for the wedding at her godmother’s gorgeous house. The grounds were amazing. Their ceremony was at Camp Mardela in Denton, Maryland–a very special place for both of them–not only had they gone to camp there, but eventually became counselors and fell in love. Before they recessed down the aisle, they rang the camp bell. Case says he thinks he has some of the best video he has ever shot. I did pretty well myself.

The reception was at the Elks Lodge in Easton. Chris Startt did his usual great job as DJ. Amy from Monteray Farms did the flowers. Bay Country Bakers made the beautiful cake. And last, but not least, Andy and Kim Nock did the photographs. (As always, we had a fun time with them and I know they got some great photos. I can’t wait to see them).

Bob was the Director of Safety at Preston Trucking when we first met. He was in charge of the video studio there. One day, in 1990, he called me out of the blue. He wanted me to come over to Preston and bring a sample of our wedding work. I was quite nervous on my way to Preston, but after meeting Bob, all nervousness was gone. He watched the wedding (only one of about three we had done at that point), gave me a few pointers, and told me it was a "nice piece". After this, we would periodically get referrals from him..

In 2003, Bob asked Case to get together for coffee to discuss working together. Bob had started his own studio at this point (Studio 101), specializing in corporate video. Most of the time, he and Case worked with Bob's corporate clients, so he had the lead on those. When Case contracted with a corporate client, he had the lead and Bob assisted. It was the start of a beautiful friendship as well as working relationship.

Bob was there for us when my mom had a sudden stroke and filled in for me at a dance recital we had contracted to do. Even though Bob no longer did event work, as soon as Case called him with the news about my mom, he asked what time did Case want to pick him up. As recently as three weeks ago, he still was there for us. Case had brought him to the house after one of their Panera meetings. I had been converting old S-VHS weddings to DVDs and my S-VHS deck was giving me problems. Bob's comment was he had a deck I could use. Typical Bob. 

Bob and Case were morning regulars at Panera Bread in Easton, until fairly recently. Even though Bob was failing, he loved to go there with Case for his favorite beverage, coffee. The only thing Bob loved more than video, coffee, and Case was his family–especially his wife of over fifty years, Bonnie. We will all miss him terribly.

We will be doing more of these interviews in the next few months. Between weddings, graduations, and commercial work, April and May should be quite busy!

Anyone sitting on the fence trying to decide whether or not to have a professional video of their wedding needs to read this article. (And of course if you do have the good sense to have video, you need to call us.)
