Phyllis’s Wedding Video Journal

portrait200h2It’s hard for us to believe, but 2009 is our 20th year producing wedding video.  One by one, we have produced over 650 videos, and we still find it challenging, rewarding and fun.

We regularly look at some of our early work, and we can see how much things have changed.   However, we can honestly say when we look at each old video, that at whatever level we were working at then, it’s all really good. We have always edited in both a photojournalistic style, and cinematic style.

We’ve always been at or ahead of the technical curve.  In 1989, we started shooting and editing in SVHS.  We continually added new equipment and upgraded to more sophisticated equipment.  In 1999, we switched to digital video.  This totally revolutionized how we worked and what we were able to offer and deliver to the customer.  In 2001, we were the first in the area to offer DVDs produced in-house.  This revolutionized delivery.  2008 was the year for high definition video with the addition of several HDV cameras, two high-performance edit systems , Blu-ray production, and upgrading the screening room.  Our screening room is now dominated by a large flat-screen, which blows our customers away when we show the HD weddings we’ve produced.

But equipment is only about 10% of the story.  90% of the total wedding video quality equation has nothing to do with equipment or software.  It has to do with people–Experience.  Skills.  Core Values.  We have continually learned from 20 years of real-world experience, formal education, professional association membership, reading, our many friends and colleagues in the wedding industry, and over 650 customers.  We’ve always been champions of networking with other local videographers as an excellent way to improve ourselves and serve the market.  We’ve participated and presented at industry expos and trade shows, including NAB, the granddaddy of them all.  We’ve published and have been quoted numerous times in the trade publications.  Nobody in our area has anywhere near the experience we do.

To bring this to a conclusion, let me say that there is ONE THING HAS NOT CHANGED:  Our Core Values.  From day one, we adopted a set of Core Values that has focused on customer needs and expectations.  That’s why in over 650 videos, nothing has ever gone out the door that had a technical flaw that we knew about, or could be improved in any substantial way toward increasing customer satisfaction.  We’ve added to the list as we learned, but we have never abandoned our Core Values for one second.

Hope you find this interesting.  We think we are justifiably proud of our first 20 years.  We think we are pretty well equipped for the next few years, and we look forward to the future with enthusiasm.
