Is wedding video for me? Only you can answer that, but if you are leaning in that direction, rest assured that you will be able to find the right videographer for your needs. The purpose of this FAQ is to help you understand the issues surrounding wedding video, and give you confidence in the process of selecting a videographer.

How long have you been producing wedding videos? Phyllis Marsh Productions (PMP) has produced about 300 wedding videos since 1990. Phyllis Marsh is a full-time wedding videographer, not a part-time, or "hobby" videographer. We invite you to view and compare our work, and we will provide references at your request.

What most distinguishes PMP from other videographers? Attention to detail. We know of no other videographer who pays more attention to detail--the details of shooting, the details of editing, the personal details. Every PMP production is carefully edited and re-edited to perfection. Each one is crafted and polished to give a lifetime of pleasure. Each PMP production receives Phyllis Marsh's personal stamp of excellence before it leaves our studio.

How many cameras do you use? We double-cover every major event (ceremony and reception) with two camera persons operating digital 3-chip cameras. In addition to the two main cameras we use for the ceremony, we set up additional unmanned cameras. This protects you from unexpected equipment failures and provides extra fine footage for editing purposes.

With all those cameras, aren't you intrusive? (Probably the number one misconception about wedding videography.) Believe it or not, good wedding videographers are less intrusive than most photographers. At PMP, we firmly believe in the sanctity of the wedding ceremony and strive to be very unobtrusive.  We dress like the wedding party; our equipment is silent; we use long lenses, so we are not in your faces. We use no lights during the ceremony, and at the reception we use low-level, variable-output lights. You will hardly know we're there until you pick up your completed wedding video, and then you won't believe your eyes!

Do you use wireless microphones? Yes. Good sound is just as important as good video (maybe more!)--especially during the ceremony. We utilize up to four professional wireless microphones during the ceremony, plus we set up auxiliary wired microphones. You will clearly notice and appreciate the difference in our treatment of sound.

Does PMP use professional equipment? Of course! We have very carefully selected our equipment to provide the best balance between cost to the client and performance. We shoot and edit using DVCAM and DV high-definition digital video format. Our digital editing equipment is truly professional, also utilizing the DV digital format. Your VHS copies will be high-quality sub-masters dubbed directly from our broadcast quality digital DV master.

Since you have good equipment, you must be good--right? Equipment hype is another major misconception--don't be fooled by it. Equipment is only about 10% of the quality equation!  PMP utilizes top-notch equipment, but what makes us truly superior goes far beyond equipment. What makes the biggest difference is our experience and personal commitment, along with the skills and strategies that really work for wedding video. Moreover, Phyllis Marsh is one of the best wedding editors in the business. Her sensitivity, devotion, and flair for wedding work shows in every production.

Can you do titles, graphics, animations, special effects, and dubbed music? Yes, our equipment can produce almost any video and audio special effect you can imagine. In addition, Phyllis Marsh knows how to use special effects effectively and appropriately to produce your video styled to suit you. Your PMP production will be "just like watching real TV."

Can you do "Baby Pictures," "Reflections," and "Love Story" productions? Yes, and we do an exceptional job. To make an unforgettable impression on your guests, we can present them at your rehearsal dinner or reception, using our state-or-the-art video projection system (up to 10 feet wide) or continuously on a TV/VCR. We can also produce Hollywood "Art" and "Spoof" video sequences, which will add additional spice and uniqueness to your wedding video.

Can you make "photo-prints" from video? We can make color prints up to 8" x 10" in size. We shoot several million individual frames during a typical wedding, and chances are we captured priceless images everybody else missed. We can also provide digital images on computer disc and CD-ROM.

If we book with PMP, who will actually tape my wedding?
***When you book Phyllis and Case Marsh, you get Phyllis and Case Marsh, not associates or sub-contractors.***
This is one of the most important considerations in the quality of wedding video.  We never double-book a date. We never use sub-contractors.  We also do all the editing.  This enables us to maintain the highest level of quality throughout--the level of quality control you should demand.

Will you attend my rehearsal to plan the video? Absolutely. Your wedding day is no time for nasty surprises. We will also provide full coverage of your rehearsal and rehearsal dinner if you wish.

Do you have packages to choose from? We have formulated several packages which we'd be happy to show you, based on services which have been popular with our customers in the past.

Can I put together my own unique package? Yes. We offer so many different types of coverage and services that preconceived packages can't cover every need. Our à la carte menu allows you to pick and choose only those items you really want. Also, if you don't see something you want, just ask. We can probably accommodate you..

When will you deliver my video? We know that you will be eager to get your video, and historically we have maintained a ten week or less delivery schedule. However, we cannot guarantee delivery dates due to many factors not in our control (including receiving production materials from our clients timely).

Can I get extra copies of my video? Of course, but you may not need any. To start, we provide copies for you and your parents at no extra cost. We will be happy to supply any additional copies you require directly from our master tape. Finally, since we intend to keep your master tape indefinitely, we should be able to provide conversions to new formats directly from the master tape as video technology changes. Copies and conversions are very reasonably priced.

Isn't wedding video expensive? Our package prices are comparable to what you can expect to pay for good photography. A PMP wedding video is actually a tremendous bargain when you consider the amount of time, effort, training, and equipment that goes into it. For example, a typical PMP production is the product of over 30 hours of editing time, not to mention the planning and shooting time and equipment. And when you consider that your PMP wedding video will bring you enjoyment for the rest of your life, you will never regret the modest investment.

Can't I economize by getting a friend to video my wedding? Of course you can, but if your video is important to you, you will be taking an enormous chance. Most amateur wedding videos are practically worthless--watched a couple of times (if that) and then forgotten. We couldn't begin to tell you of all the stories we've heard about dead batteries, muddy images, bad sound, and shaky camerawork. So, go ahead, if you dare.

Are you saying, "You get what you pay for"? Yes and no. Professionals are more likely to have the equipment, talent, and experience necessary for the demands of wedding video. But there are good and bad videographers in every price range. Don't shop price alone. There are two simple rules for judging which videographer is best for you. View their work, and interview their references. That goes for PMP too. In fact, we insist on it!

What's the bottom line? The bottom line is that there are many, many good reasons to videotape your wedding, and Phyllis Marsh Productions is the ideal choice to do it. At first, you will have great fun seeing things you had forgotten or missed, and delight in your family and friends enjoying themselves. Over the years, you will watch it over and over as it grows into one of your most cherished possessions as a family album and record. In time, you will share it with your children and grandchildren. No other wedding purchase will bring you such great, lasting pleasure.
